Jorchu: The Meditation Song
The ancient sages of Tibet called it Jorchu: The Meditation Song. It is a spiritual journey that we take every morning to prepare ourselves for very deep meditation. During a free series of teachings offered in Phoenix in November, you can learn to do this beautiful practice yourself at home.
As we go through The Meditation Song, we learn how to sit for meditation; what to meditate on; and how to connect with all the teachers of ancient times who have passed the Song on for the past 2,500 years. We learn to see things that we have always missed before—things that make our daily life a joyful miracle.
This celebration of the ancient Meditation Song will be a group effort. Each day we will begin with a meditation and yoga session. In the evenings we will learn new parts of the Song from the original Tibetan manuscript from Geshe Michael Roach. In the middle, in the afternoons, we will break out into special small creativity groups where we will create an interpretation of the Song in dance, poetry, singing, drama, or just inside a silent meditation. On the final day we will combine our efforts into a single joyful celebration of the divine. On the registration page you can select which group you would like to be in.
Each creative group will be led by a master teacher, such as yoga maestro Anatole Nguyen or professional choreographer, aerialist and dancer, John Elliott Oyzon. The teachings on the text of The Meditation Song itself will be offered by Geshe Michael Roach.
This series of teachings is being offered without charge by the Asian Classics Institute of Phoenix, beginning on Monday evening November 11, and continuing through to Sunday afternoon November 17. It is preceded by free teachings on The Meditation Song and related topics by Geshe Michael and other senior teachers at Diamond Mountain University, outside of Tucson, Arizona, on November 8-10.
The classes are a continuation of the “Steps to Enlightenment” series taught by Geshe Michael Roach, an American who grew up in Phoenix and spent 25 years in Tibetan monasteries. He is also the author of the bestselling book, The Diamond Cutter, which tells the story of how he used these techniques to help start a $250 million diamond business to feed refugees and save the cultural heritage of Tibet.
All classes are FREE and open to all. The first 3 days of teachings will be at Diamond Mountain University, located near Bowie, Arizona, and the rest in Phoenix. For more information on the teachings at Diamond Mountain, visit their website. Please note, you must register separately for these events.
